Automation clips are treated as channels in step sequencer. This makes no sense at all! Clips aren't channels. If they are anything, they are patterns, just like patterns filled with automation only.
This goes quite absurd, for instance you can see channel settings for automation clip and set the root note (what for?).
Also, I can't see any reason to have them displayed all the time. They are cluttering the display and this is the reason to avoid them in favour of automation patterns, although their style of editing (Bezier curves) could otherwise be much more favourable for many tasks.
