There isn't really an option to abort a slice if can't point the blue line over empty Playlist space. I suggest pressing Esc aborts the slicing. I also suggest Right-Click does the same. (After attempting to make a slice with Left-Click, not instead of Right-Click slicing!) (Same goes for Right-Click slicing but the other way round.
