The first version of this song was posted about 1 year ago. I never finished the track, as we ended up getting sidetracked by the thoughts of adding electric guitars, and other projects were started... Anyway, I've dug this out and tried to finish it up.
The Soundcloud links all go to the same track!
I've left the original post below for context.
THANKS!
So, I decided to post this after a quick round of polishing last night after coming back from holiday. In particular, the transitions were a mess. If they still are, let me know
Not sure whether I'm completely done with the instrumentation yet. But the structure, lyrics etc. are finished. It was suggested that the vox might be a tad quiet in a few parts, so I might need to muck about with the compression a bit. Otherwise I can't really comment on the mix, as I don't have any distance from it. But you'll tell me what I messed up, I'm sure.
Edit: Here's an MP3 of the original version I posted, in case you're interested. Seeing as most of you aren't particularly well versed in the intricacies of the German language, I've translated the lyrics so you can get some context and understand the overall vibe of the song. Obviously, poetry/lyrics don't translate all that well - we lose the rhyming and meter, as well as some of the nuances of the original language. I've tried to convey the sense of the original as best as possible. The literal translation of "Komm mit mir mit" is "come along with me". However, in the context of lyrics, I'd probably just opt for "come with me" in English, hence the square brackets.
Do you remember when we were still young?
So naïve and inexperienced
We thought that we could change the world
In contrast to our forebears
But that time is long since gone
We were caught up with much to do
Our own kids, our own four walls
But every beginning has an end
Come [along] with me
And draw fresh hope
I miss the good old days
Come [along] with me
Back to the beginning
Our time is much too short
I still find it hard to grasp
After all those years, here I stand
Two steps forward, then one back
But you learn from your mistakes
Come [along] with me
And draw fresh hope
I miss the good old days
Come [along] with me
Back to the beginning
Our time is much too short
Everything is transitory
Just a brief moment in time
But the sentence runs a lifetime
And the umbilical cord the noose
Do you remember when we were still young?
And we saw only our future ahead of us
But we can no longer change the world
That much is clear to me
Come [along] with me
And draw fresh hope
I miss the good old days
Come with me
Back to the beginning
Our time is much too short
