How do I remove the white/grey square background?

I've been using ZGameEditor for quite a while now with no issues, but as of yesterday it has started showing up with this as the background instead of the plain black square it had before. This is an issue, because when I turn the alpha down for effect layers, this background is invisible behind my image and effect layers. Is there a way to go back to the plain black square I had before?
