How to get instruments in the channel rack to respond to specific midi channels

Hi,

I have a keyboard midi controller that can split the keyboard into two sections and output a different midi channel for each section.

I would like to control different channel instruments with each section, this way I can simultaneously play a bass and keyboard part from two different instruments.

Can anyone show me how I can set this up?
