so I'm still a "block head" but I have some suggestion that could really improve the clip work (and may motivate me to change my workflow) :
the new playlist is good to arrange stuff, but it lacks some creativity features. if there was a way to add an empty pianoroll clip or an empty pattern clip directly in a lane it would be a serious gain of time (it would imply to find a way to determine which would be the used generator for PR clips, this is a flaw of free lane architecture, I'm ok with free lane btw).
also this "make unique" stuff was cool at first but then it became really boring. every clip should be made unique automatically. it would imply to change the system of auto and audio clips : 1 generator should be able to contain several unique clips so it's no more a jungle of generators (probably easy to do with auto clips, and probably have to totally rethink audio clips). it would also imply that audio slices readapt their time stretch/pitch settings to correspond exactly to the original clip settings. and every audio slice should have its own pitch and stretch settings without having to create a new one. stretch should be cancellable for full flexibility.
adding a clip browser totally independent from the block playlist would fix a lot of problems. could work this way : a first menu/window where you select your source generator (pattern selector could also be seen as the first choice there) then a submenu/subwindow where you select the clip you want (implying that auto and audio clips work like I described before), including pattern clips. the pianoroll clips in the browser must be totally independent from the patterns so that you don't have thousands of patterns like it is now.
this would turn the new playlist into something competitive. for now it has to much flaws for being taken really seriously. and the freedom based on the fact that one generator is not limited to one lane (and vice versa) is slanted by the lack of flexibility of the clips.
and some little boring details :
selection tool should respect the snap to grid setting : it would be more accurate when working with small clips.
the rshift+lclick to have a speed cut tool is really usefull but it's impossible to use it when your lanes are all used (no blank place to "activate" it), it should have another shortcut, or be activable when you are near the line separating 2 lanes.
navigation is better since the black bar is bigger but it's still possible to warp to the other side of your track by mistake : the grey bar could work like a MS windows bar : when you click left or right from the bar cursor it would jump only one screen left or right instead of jumping to the corresponding position in the track. |
