FL doesn't remember settings - help!

First post here. I have Emu Xboard61. I can get as far as getting the keyboard controls (knobs) working on lots of different perameters inside one song, but when I move to a new song none of the controls are remembered so I have to start again programming for the new song. When I return to the song that I have already programmed the settings work again - but not when I start a new song. Surely it isn't necessary to program the Xboard controls for every new song? I can't see that it's an Xboard problem - there must be some way for FL to remember the settings from one song to another.
