Clour changes on Irex-v6

I'm trying to change the colour of the black bars top and bottom of the banner area on the Irex-v6 template.

I looked through the images in the template/images folder and the most likely candidates seem to be:

splitbar_tile
sub_button
button

all of which are about the right pixel height and colour #000000

I've changed the colour of all those to be a lighter grey to be less harsh and done a full rebuild, but the bars remain black.

Does anyone have any ideas please?
