Whats the best way to get the most out of samples in edison?

Hi, Ive been using fruity for a while, but sorta stay away from sampling in edison, i record a sample through main on mixer (prob my problem?) then use denoise (dont think i can work it out) I make the green line wave in denoise level out by either droping the green line either side to make the sound wave seem level (is this the way?) thenaccept, bounce to main sequencer, then link to mixer adding compression fruity filter and free filter (denoise preset) and maximus to boost.. but its just killing my ears.. i really need to know what im doing in this process cause im seriously hitting bad ranges of ear piercing sound... whats the steps i should take, first off, before even listening to the recorded wav in edison, to avoid damaging my ears further? Any help would be fantastic..im pretty pc illiterate :P
