how to make or find epic leads

Hi guys,

I want to make some great leads. I have a song where the lead changes often, so I need 5 or 6 killer leads. I'm not looking for screaming saws... but interesting, unique, rich and full sounds. For example, I have one lead I love, it is basically a bell sound with added delay and portamento (made with 3xosc preset called "lurk"). What about a brassy sound? A harpy one? A flutey one? Squarish one with some personality? Etc.

Do you have any wonderful presets for any FL synth (sytrus, harmor, toxic, 3xosc, ts404 etc) or a freebie synth (noizemaker, etc.)? Or, any words of advice on creating great leads?

Do you layer leads? Or do you typically just pick one great sound and work with the synth to make it complete? In which case, what are the characteristics you most like in a lead?

I realize this question has no definite answers... and that many of us struggle with leads... so just tell me your thoughts on this, let's discuss. (at least maybe I won't feel so alone with this struggle!) Thanks.
