FL Studio + Ubuntu

Hello. This is not a request for help but a tutorial for those who may be undergoing a problem. Examine this picture.

Image

Ubuntu and FL Studio. It's not that hard to accomplish. If you run Ubuntu, go into System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. Now, look up "wine." If it does not appear in the list, go to Settings > Repositories and check the Universe check box. After installing, run the FL Studio installer (may require typing "wine /installer/directory/FLStudioInstaller.exe." After completing the installation look in Applications > Wine > Programs for FL Studio. Try launching FL Studio. If it works, you will notice there is no sound. This is easy to fix. Look in /home/<USER>/.wine/ for your C drive directory (ussually drive_c). Then go into windows/ and look for the file "system.ini." Open it. Now, add the lines

Code: Select all

MSACM.winemp3=winemp3.acm

MSACM.vorbis=vorbis.acm"

to the [drivers32] section. Save it. Open FL and it should now be able to function.

KEY NOTES
FL Studio will not be recognized by the window manager and will always cover other windows. When opening or saving a file, make sure FL Studio is not covering the middle of the screen or it can cover up the dialog box. If this happens, go into System > Administration > System Monitor and end FL.exe.
--THIS ERROR NO LONGER OCCURS IN UBUNTU GUTSY GIBBON--

FL Studio 8 will not be able to recognize the regkey and run in a non-demo mode. You will have to run it in demo mode or use FL Studio 7 until a solution is found. I am very sorry.

FL Studio 8.5 Beta runs fine in Ubuntu GNU/Linux. No mods needed anymore. Just download, install, import registry with the WINE registry editor, and enjoy.
