Sidechaining in FL 8.5 Beta basics

Thought id explain the basics of sidechaining in the upcoming FL 8.5 Beta.

The sidechaining works on top of the existing routing in the mixer.

You enable sidechaining to a track from the same send enable switches as normal routing.

The difference is sidechaining will be enabled regardless of the normal send level amount.

So you keep the send level to 0% if you only want to sidechain. (Right click a send switch for a 'Sidechain to this track' shortcut).

But importantly, you decide what to do with sidechain signals from plugins.


Say you want to duck a pad with a kick.

You add a Fruity Limiter to the pad track, select the kick track, right click the send enable switch under the pad track and select 'Sidechain to this track'.

Now on the COMP page of the Fruity Limiter on the pad track you can select sidechain 1.

Now the compression of the pad will be controlled by the kick, reduce the threshold and increase the ratio.

You can then change the level of the kick tracks send to master level, without effecting the compression of the pad track.
