Midi controller causing cpu overload stutter

Hey Yall!

I'm a little stumped with an issue I'm having.

I recently upgraded to a new computer (Macbook pro 2021 M1 Max 64GB) and I have a Midi Fighter connected.
Anytime I twist the knob to control the associated vst plugin, the software chokes and stutters. I have my buffer settings at 512smp and I've tried it both faster and slower.

It is going from USB 2.0 to a Caldigit SOHO hub.
The hub is currently unpowered- and I just ordered new USB C power cable to remedy that, but I cant imagine it's having THAT hard of a time intercepting midi over usb without power and I would not be suprised if powering the hub does nothing to remedy this.

Really wanted to develop this tune by utilizing the midi fighter and not rely on drawing everything in! I also would like to skip re-mapping everything!
