Why does a notch band cause this to happen? (audio ringing?)

Hi there i was just playing around with PEQ2 to notch out frequencies that are booming in my new studio room. now i know this isn't how to do it etc etc but i just wanted to have a go and see what happens. I will be DIYing my own broadband absorbers and bass traps

why wav.wav
So i notched out around 61hz and played a B. You can hear when i press the key it spikes, and when i let go it spikes too. This seems to just be an amplitude thing in the source (a 3xosc sine wave). As it also does it when i turn the synth output up and down. You can see it on the edison channel too.

This obviously isn't the type of EQ to do this (something like IK ARC is obviously made for the job) but what is actually happening? And does it happen at low levels to all audio being cut or just extreme slopes?
