What is the Omni preview MIDI channel?

Good day all,

I've got an AKAI MPK mini USB device, and really just have a simple question about it. It's not a standard MIDI device with the in, out, and thru ports and what not, so because of this, I believe FL only recognizes it as a MIDI input device? Well anyways, by default FL listens to all MIDI channels, so if the keyboard isn't setup to any specific channels, everything should work just fine (and it does). My question is what does the 'Omni preview MIDI channel' refer to exactly? Also, why when it is set to Channel 1, does it cycle through the channels in ascending order when I use the pads on my MPK mini? If I set to --- or any other #, the pads, like the keys, only play the selected channel. I love this function and use it all of the time, but I just don't understand why it does it what it does. I know I'm not having any technical issues or anything, but I've just been confused about what's been going on changing that omni preview channel for quite some time now.

Thank you,
Briney
