A new Dawbench focusing on i7 8700K vs Ryzen 7 2700X
There's indeed a notable improvement in the Zen gen2 IPC. That can be seen by analyzing the Polyphony count:
At 48Khz / 64 smpl: i7 8700K is ahead of 2700X by almost 46%
While: At 96Khz / 64 smpl: The 8700K is ahead of 2700X by 25%
Obviously at higher sampling rates, the Zen gen2 performance gets improved.
It's worth to mention that Zen gen2 (let's say Zen+) gets real advantage by utilizing memory frequency overclocking, that's due to the original design concept of Ryzen infinity fabric. So by just implementing some decent DDR4 frquency speeds, the Zen+ could achieve a real decent job...
More about this in this video:
Apparently the gap is still wide between the blue team & the red team, although that's not a concrete truth since the Zen+ will get improved via bios updates and enhancements.
Performance wise, check this video to see how both CPUs do:
IMO, I'm still preferring Intel's CPUs as they are a music production standard, but due to what is happening lately of unstable bios releases, rushed production, motherboard faults, I'd say it is better to wait some more time if someone's considering to build a new PC or to upgrade.
