using pads as switches - akai mpd16

has any one tried using the akai mpd16 as a switch controller?

i want to be able to use the pads as switch controllers.
The problem is is that only a few of the pads work as switches.
the rest of the pads dont switch they hold while pressed.

i.e. I have 16 channels playing. I want the mute/solo of each individual channel to be linked to each pad, turning it on and off.
When i do this only about 6 pads actually work as switches. The other pads need to be held.

I tried changing the equation of the link but that didnt help either.

has any one done this with success?
or does any one know where i can buy a used monome?
