I just want to record vocals (mixer broken)

A couple things. Firstly, and most importantly, I somehow totally screwed up my mixer settings and can't figure out how to fix them. Every time I try to restore defaults, the audio freaks out and starts emitting a super high pitched noise. Now I can't hear the song or pattern when I play it. I just want a way to reset things. I've spent hours now just trying to record my voice over the beat and can't get it to work without it creating a clone of everything else along with my voice. It's all so ridiculously complicated and it's frustrating me way more than it should. Please help.
