Convert MIDI CC to FL Internal Controller signals?

CCStepper by CodeFN42 is a plugin that sends out a continuous stream MIDI CC messages, based on its step sequencer. These data are transported via the green connectors/wires in Patcher. This works well if the target plugin can read these CCs directly or has a MIDI Learn function to make it listen to specific CC numbers. However, many plugins (including all FL-native plugins, AFAIK) are insensitive to MIDI CCs. On the other hand, almost every plugin can react to FL Internal Controller signals (red connectors in Patcher) instead.

So how do you 'translate' MIDI CCs into Internal Controller signals?

My current approach lacks any elegance, IMO: Using Patcher, I first convert the MIDI CC to the volume value (CC#7) of an audio signal (sine tone) using an inaudible 'adaptor' synth that can read CCs (e.g. Synth1), and then further convert this volume signal to Internal Controller data using Fruity Peak Controller, which is connected to the target via a red wire (see pics, either set up as a Patcher instrument or a Patcher effect).

This detour via the audio path works to certain extent, but seems cumbersome to me. So, is there a more straightforward way to convert MIDI CC to FL Internal Controller signals?
