Sidechaining method for edm build ups

hey everyone, I was wondering if any of you had any great methods for sidechaining during build ups or rises. I usually work on Dubstep, Trap and recently started messing with Future bass and I was wondering if there is another great method for doing some clean build ups where the snare and/or kick can cut properly through the effects and tension.
I use sidechain compression with the fruity limiter all the time for build ups and has work well until I started adding kicks and 808s and it gets messy. Any tips or other methods that work great with build ups for dubstep and trap?
