How would you go about reproducing this effect?

Hey there,

I've been trying to reproduce a gate effect that slowly slows down overtime just like in the following video between the 2:45 and 3:15 time stamps.

I've tried making a gate using automation clips on the mixer channel volume but I can't get to make a smooth transition like in the music above.
I also thought about using Gross Beat but I encountered the same limitations.

I'm sure (or at least hope) this has been covered somewhere in the forums before but I have not been able to find anything relevant to what I'm trying to do.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
