Music is a creative process. Certain themes change your surroundings and the music. That's the spirit of that comment. It's the same reason people like RGB lighting in their rooms. It allows you to set the mood of your studio to make music in a certain style.SuperTRev wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 6:08 pmWait, what happened to the theme not changing the way the software functions? You just contradicted yourself. Which is it?Gangly Space Creatures wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 11:43 amIf looking at a certain type of theme makes the user happy and relaxed which leads to them making better music
There's Ableton themes. Yes, some of them do look like an eye-sore. Do people tend to use the ugly eye-sores? No.SuperTRev wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 6:08 pmPeter does have a point. Companies that are worthwhile don't open up their products for tinkering by the public. Much of what happens becomes silly. Just look at the meme culture. You can't post anything on the internet without crazy people turning it into a bad joke.Gangly Space Creatures wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 11:43 amfor fear of damaging your perception of FL as a DAW for professional use. Whatever that even means.
The most downloaded themes on the website are well made. It's all on the user to use what they like. Every once in a while I'll see someone's FL toolbar 4 inches long with everything pushed around. Brightly colored, garish background colors in their playlist and piano roll. Garish and ugly FL wallpaper colors too. I don't like it, but if they don't care why should I? If they enjoy making music with it who am I to judge?
People can already make FL look hideous, so it's just an excuse to avoid expanding customizability. It's not a reason to remove already existing customizability features either. In short, there's already some freedom to customize FL to look better to the user. The majority of the time people use these features for the better. How the user uses and customizes the software says more about them than the software. Following the NSFW theme comment, people can already set their FL background to that. I don't see what that concern has to do with expanding customizability if it's already possible. It's not a widespread issue right now, is it? Why would it be in the future?
If we based which features are implemented on whether people on the Internet could turn it into a joke, I guess we'd have to get rid of the building blocks of the Internet and the DAW itself...
- What if someone made a website that looked bad! (Search early 90s web design and be blown away.) I guess we need to get rid of CSS and HTML now?
- What if someone made a funny song for a YouTube video utilizing our DAW! (There's so many examples of this on YouTube, from creating randomly made up genres and meme mashups to performing meme songs with MIDI controllers.) I guess we need to get rid of the ability to make music now in our DAW since the song might be unprofessional?
