How to remake/recreate songs on Fl Studio?

I want to get a good grasp on how to accuratly remake songs on fl studio. My current approach, is to take the reference song, detect the constant tempo, and re-create the elements/atmosphere by ear through the reference song. I'm quite new at critical listening and emulating musical styles so I could use some advice from expirienced users as well.
