Distortion when automating FLEX output volume

Hi,

under normal circumstances i would not do this, but it was needed for Looptalk Monthly Contest reasons , and I'm just curious what causes it.

To create the body of a kick drum, I used the sine wave preset from the FLEX general MIDI library, which I modulate with a volume automation curve:

You can see (and hear) some distortion on the part where the volume slides up (and down). What could cause this? The distortion is gone when the automation is disabled.
