Question about recording into playlist

Hi there,

I have a small problem with recording into the playlist.
I know how to record, but everytime i record an audio vocal take, then delete the audio clip (when i don't like my take). The playlist keeps assigning the next empty track in the playlist regardless that i deleted my previous recording.
Moving the new audio clips down on the playlist tracks on every take.
With what setting do i prevent this from happening? it gets very annoying after a few takes, having to drag my audio clips up all the way again.

It hasn't been like this before,
it usually would just find an open spot in between/after only occupied tracks.
Now it keeps moving down regardless.

Please let me know, it's so frustrating.
