It won't let me place patterns onto playlist anymore

I'm trying to drag a pattern onto the playlist and it shows my mouse cursor dragging the pattern box thingy around, but when I let go of my left mouse button it won't put onto the playlist. It shows the animation for the pattern getting smaller and smaller as if it's going to go onto the playlist, but nothing happens

I have Playlist focus set to pattern, the Playlist picker is set to patterns and the project is in song mode (next to the play/pause/record button).

What is going on??
