I'd suggest a popup that asks if you want to keep the file or delete it from hard drive.
Otherwise this missing popup will start to clutter all our hard drives with countless useless takes and wrong recordings that will never be used (which users will probably completely forget they are still stored).
Before when you did ctrl z after a recording there was a popup asking if you want to delete the audio file. Now it doesn't ask anything and the audio stays on the hard drive.
If i want to undo a recording (highly likely because it was a faulty recording) I'd like to delete also the audio file because I will never use it, never ever again.
It no longer needs to ask for deletion because the action is redoable, like any other action. Whereas there used to be no redo after undoing a recording.
If the files don't get automatically removed in your case then it's a bug. I understand your confusion though because the new behaviour wasn't explained anywhere.
But now I realized I didn't explained myself.
If you undo a consolidation render (not a recording sry), the consolidated audio file stays on the hard drive even if you overwrite the undo history with new actions.
