I keep losing instrument focus

I realize this is probably quite the newbie problem but everytime that i have a piano in focus and then i move anything else in my playlist , the focus changes to that other instrument or audio clip and then i have to go back to the channel rack and reselect it everytime. is there any setting that lets you keep the focus on what you selected in the channel rack?
