I recently discovered the min/max knobs next to the automation channel. I was getting overwhelmed with all the automation in the playlist because I have many linked to the mixer insert level sliders. This sort of poses a problem for me when I find that I need to raise or lower the level of an insert channel manually because it will immediately be overwritten by the ongoing automation process it's linked to. So now that I found the min/max knobs, I think I can work with those.
Well, all this got me thinking: Maybe linking the insert levels to automation isn't the brightest thing to do because of the situation I just described. Perhaps it would be better to automate something else and leave all the manual adjustments to the main mixer? What do you think? What are some good habits and practices when it comes to automating?
