Can't use FX Slots

Just redownloaded FL studio. I was working on a song, everything went smoothly for the most part, but I can't use the FX slots. I'm not sure if there is a way to lock or disable them. For certain very specific plugins, I am able to drag and drop them into the FX slots from the left, but most of the plugins don't work well that way either.

Does anyone have experience with a similar issue, or know the solution?
