This was/is very noticeable in the 8-bit era of music.
Some really great music has been made with only a couple of Sound Channels with basic sounds...
And with that in mind I present you this month's contest: Chip Tunes.
This month I'd mainly like to challenge your composing skills.
(And what you can do with sounds given.)
As everyone now will have exactly the same sounds, one can no longer rely on some fancy sound designing or effects.
How will you stand out from the rest?
I will provide a project to get you started and to make sure everyone will use the exact same sounds. Now tune in and make us an amazing Chiptune...tune.
Rules
- 4 Generators with basic sounds only.
2 Channels based on the C64 Chip. (Triangle, Saw, Pulse, Noise.)
1 Channel based on the NES Chip. (Triangle)
1 Channel dedicated for Noise. - Channel's must be monophonic. (Max. Polyphony = 1)
- No Samples allowed.
- No Effects allowed.
- Controllers (both Generators & Effects) are allowed.
Fruity Envelope Controller, Fruity Formula Controller, ...etc. - Only the Channel's Volume, Pan, Pitch , Mod X & Mod Y may be automated.
The Parameters of the Controllers may also be automated.
- PPQ must be set to 24.
- Track length must be within 1:30 - 5:00.
- both the .flp and .mp3 must be uploaded.
SoundCloud link of the submitted Tune is optional.
Voting will then be open for 3 days.
The winner of this contest will have the right to host the next one.
