Studio monitors help/thoughts

Hi everyone, Thanks for the headphone feedback which helped me decide on which ones to get. I managed to get the HD600s and I luckily found the Denon adh 950 which I had a pair many years ago so I decided to pick them up although the Beyerdynamic headphones would have been a great option. Anyways,

I am looking forward to buying most likely used Monitor speakers. Years ago I fell in love with the Yamaha HS8 over at guitar center and have lusted over the years for them since. Currently I am using sony 8" bookshelf or they may be floor standing speakers, Those are not monitors and the lows always seemed to be a bit muddy from them. I also have a pair sony 5" speakers as well. Before I save up and spend a bundle I wanted to know what monitors you use and what your thoughts are. The reason I want 8" is because it "should" be the middle ground to give enough bass vs something that is smaller. Another option is to get smaller monitors and ad a sub but I really don't want to do that.
