Bass distortion after exporting?

A friend of mine, who generally makes hip hop beats, has been having problems when he exports his tracks. In the last one the 808's were completely distorted, the honestly sound horrible. EVERYTHING else is fine, nothing but bass elements become distorted after export. I can still feel a slight thump from the bass, and the level is fine i hear it perfectly, they just sound distorted and there's absolutely no rumble whatsoever. Anybody know what could possibly be causing this?
