I discovered this site today, with free orchestra samples:
http://www.philharmonia.co.uk/explore/make_music
The files are in mp3 format, so I used this freeware app to convert them into wav files:
http://www.boxoft.com/mp3-to-wav/
I find DirectWave's program editor to be kind of confusing, so I downloaded another freeware, sfZed, to make sfz files that I then import into DirectWave:
http://audio.clockbeat.com/sfZed.html
At the moment I'm working on figuring out how to create some presets using the bassoon library.
The files are structured as InstrumentName_NoteName_Bank#_descriptor ... with the descriptor being "piano, forte, fortissimo, and mezzo-piano" so I'm using this little graphic to determine what to range them as...
so i'm using 0-49 for piano, 50-64 for mezzo-piano, 65-80 for mezzo-forte, 81-96 for forte, and 112-127 for fortissimo...
I would love to hear from anyone who wants to sample more DW presets using their library, and would appreciate any suggestions about streamlining workflow of preset creation..
Once I get a working preset I'll post it here with instructions...it would be wonderful to get a high-quality free orchestra bank working with DW.
