Newbie Question, multiple samples in Direct Wave

An apology if the answer to this is obvious. I've been trying to learn my way through FL Studio and have made some progress, but there are definite gaps in my knowledge. I come from an instrumental background rather than a production one, so I'm a bit out of my depth right now.

Currently I'm trying to learn how Direct Wave functions and have a basic understanding of what it does, in that it is a great way of ordering and collating a set of samples into something more useable than having individual samples everywhere.

My question is essentially, how/can I change samples mid piano roll (as that is my primary input into FL studio, I don't own a MIDI keyboard)?

For the purposes of illustrating this, imagine I just have two identical notes on a piano roll, one after another. Is it possible to manually change the root sample of one of them so that they differ?
