Black Blob in BugTrails

The BugTrails visualizer seems like it could be pretty nice.

Except there's a big black blob in the middle of the bugs.

Why is this here? And is there a way to get rid of it?

I can see it might be OK on a black background, but there are many not black static image backdrops that could be given a bit of animation with BugTrails. But the black blob makes it completely useless for this. Is there any similarish particle effect without the blob? Or any way to remove it?

Oh. And the PlasmaFlies doesn't seem to do anyt...
