Midi keyboard pausing / playing track

I have an old Yamaha keyboard with midi capabilities, and it works fine when it does work. But often when I start up Fl Studio, the keyboard behaves erratically, and it constantly pauses and plays the track, and changes the position on the playlist. I can never get it to stop when it starts doing that (I have tried restarting my computer, doing various unplugging / on-off combinations of the controller, etc), so I often don't even try producing the days in which it happens, because it is so frustrating.

I can't tell if it is the keyboard or FL studio being weird, but I didn't have this problem when I first got FL, and I've used Mixcraft Acoustica (an alternative DAW) with this keyboard--no issues.

BTW, I know that it is related to the keyboard, because when I unplug it / disable it the problem goes away completely.

Also, it may be helpful to note that the little controller nob in the top left of FL (that tells you midi controller events) will randomly highlight green and orange while the keyboard is plugged in, and sometimes when it highlights, that's when the weird pausing / playing / skipping occurs. It's like the controller is sending its own signals that are controlling FL in unintended ways. The events don't have any letters or anything next to it like a normal midi event though (like C7 or G2 when I press the keys intentionally).

Please help, this is the most frustrating problem I have ever encountered with FL studio. It makes it impossible to work. I don't want to buy a new midi keyboard unless I am sure that the problem is with my current one.
