Jupiter X/XM (Sort of a guide)

Here are some notes that others might find helpful when working with a Jupiter X/XM.

The First Way: (Good to use if you are confused and/or can't conceive of using all timbral parts of the X/M)
1. Use Jupiter X as the audio interface (device). Connect the Jupiter to your computer via USB. Download the drivers from Roland, etc.
FL Studio Settings: Audio Device = Jupiter X. Enabled Options = Multithreaded generator and mixer processing, Align ticks, Truncated notes, and smart disable.
2. Plug your TRS cables from the Jupiter to your monitors.
3. Open MIDI options and set your midi ports (see step 4b)
4. Add a Midi Out (Instrument) in the channel rack in FL Studio. Click on the Midi Out.
4a. Set the channel to 1.
4b. Set the MIDI Ports. The midi port must match the midi settings. As far as I can tell you can use either the Jupiter-X or DAW CNTRL ports.

{At this point you can play and hear the Jupiter X/M through your monitors, but you are not ready to record. You can record MIDI notes, and the Jupiter X/M will play them back when you play your pattern/song, but if you export your song/tracks you will have no sound. At this point you can tweak knobs and settings on the Jupiter while your song plays back}

5. Set up one channel at a time in the mixer to record the audio from the Jupiter XM. Set the input on the mixer track to the Jupiter output = "In Mix - Mix (R)". Now when you are ready to record your track/song the MIDI track will trigger the Jupiter X/M to produce the audio, and the audio coming from the Jupiter X/M will be recorded.

**You can use only one MIDI out channel and create multiple patterns to record separate MIDI scores for different instruments. Be careful when switching between presets on the Jupiter as this will change what channel/instrument you are using in FL Studio!**

2nd Way:
1. Open your audio settings and set the Jupiter XM as your audio interface (device).
2. Use the same cable setup as the 1st way because you are using the Jupiter X/M as your audio interface (device).
3. Go to the MIDI options tab. Set up your MIDI ports. I like to set the Jupiter-X to port 1 and the Jupiter-X DAW CNTL to port 2.
3. Open the mixer. Set mixer track 1 as the master audio track = "In Mix - In Mix(R)" **This is a stereo track.**
4. Set the next 5 mixer tracks in sequence -- "In 1 - In 1(R)" and so on. These are for the 5 timbral parts that the Jupiter X/M is capable of playing simultaneously.
5. Add a Midi Out Instrument/Channel in the Channel Rack and set the port to match your MIDI settings for the Jupiter X/M.
6. When you record select "Record Everything".

{Using this method you will record all of the Jupiter X/M parts simultaneously, as well as the MIDI notes. Don't fret if you don't see your midi notes being recorded in real time. They will appear after you have stopped recording. If you only want to play one Jupiter X/M timbral part you can disarm recording on the mixer tracks that you are not going to use.}

THE ARPEGGIATOR

If you enable master sync on both the Jupiter-X and Jupiter-X DAW CNTRL MIDI outputs the tempo of the arpeggiated track you are recording will NOT match either FL studio, or the Jupiter X. It will be too fast.

MIDI Output:
Jupiter-X MIDI Hardware Port SYNC 1
Jupiter-X DAW CTRL MIDI Hardware port SYNC 2
Send master sync is enabled on port 2 ONLY

**If you disabled send master sync it will record at the tempo set by the Jupiter XM Arpeggiator. If it is enabled you will record at the tempo set in FL studio.**
**If you keep the MIDI track enabled during playback it might double trigger the Jupiter X/M to play while FL studio is playing the recorded audio.**
**The Jupiter X/M can have parts where the keyboard is split, and one part can play in a different octave no matter which part is selected.**
