getting FLS20 to recognize Alesis Surge via USB

I'm pulling my hair out at this point, the typical novice thing.

I have an Alesis Surge mesh kit I'm trying to record using its native bank sounds. The only way I've been able to get FLS20 to recognize the kit is via audio interface (in this case, Scarlet 2i2). The problem is, I hate the Scarlet as it always creates latency, which I've managed to bypass with other instruments by instead using USB ports from guitar pedals or bass effects, for e.g.

I assumed I would be able to do the same thing with the USB interface from the Alesis, but FLS20 is not recognizing it as a device in the FL ASIO. It's picking up the midi signal, and can trigger VSTs, but it's not offering the Alesis as an input device, and instead just says there's an "Error: Input couldn't be opened!" message in the FL Studio ASIO V1.04 window.

I've troubleshot what I can (swapping cables, pinging Alesis for missing drivers, etc). Am I missing something?
