How to use Synthmaker to control external hardware

I've recently purchased a second hand Roland Alpha Juno 1 locally. Now I would like to use Synthmaker/dashboard to control my hardware via FLSTUDIO. When I click the keys on the plugin I can hear the synth, but for some reason when I try triggering notes via the FLSTUDIO Pianoroll, nothing happens. What's going on? What's best way to get this all working?
