SMG RGB Osc ?

I'm no tech genius, but I try to keep up with the new software goodies the kind people at IL make available, and while watching the promo for SM 2 I noticed the SMG RGB Osc plugin. Immediately, the thought of creating sounds out of images got me very excited (my band-mate is a great graphic designer), but I was disappointed when I loaded the plugin up, loaded an image, and pushed a key on my midi keyboard.

No sound. I thought, "okay, maybe I can take these wave forms and put them into some other kind of synthesizer," but I can't seem to touch or save the waves created by the SMG RGB Osc.

So, it's left me wondering, "what's the point of this? How does this help me make music?"
