Sound Design Help

Sometimes when I make a sound and I press "A" (or whatever other note) in the piano roll, it ends up being an "E", also at times the note that comes after ends up being different too, even though i'm still picking "A" (or whatever other note) in the piano roll. Is this common and should I just "sample" it or is this a problem with the way i'm making my sounds?
Btw i'm using serum
