Perpetual, non-repeating, random LFO/S&H

  • a Patcher preset (Generator or Effect) with a simple, non-repeating, random LFO/Sample & Hold (S&H)
  • produces Internal Controller signals to modulate plugin parameters (red cables in Patcher)
  • complete randomness
  • use it to introduce subtle or pronounced variation, e.g. to a filter, distortion or pitch
  • one or more plugins to be modulated are placed into the audio path onto the Map tab, then desired parameters are connected to the output of the Visualizer module
  • this LFO/S&H is independent of FL Studio Clock/Transport, i.e. it runs on its own, driven by System Time; hence the LFO keeps on running perpetually; also, unlike FL's native LFO plugin (Fruity Peak Controller), it does not repeat when stopping and re-starting transport
  • LFO/S&H step timing (rate) is either free or synced to tempo (range: 1/2 to 32 steps); sync on and off rates are set by respective sliders
  • randomness is either free or seeded; use 'Free' seeding for full randomness; use seeding to control identity/variation with more than one instance of the LFO; seeds are set by the Seed # knob; if slider is set to 'Seeded' and values for 'Seed #' are the same (use right-click, copy/paste), resulting LFOs are identical
  • LFO positioning: amplitude and Y-offset
  • LFO smoothing; includes amplitude boost to compensate for dampening that can be caused by the smoothing
  • open the Visualizer from the Map tab to view the resulting LFO/S&H and monitor adjustments
  • Tip: Works great for non-repeating 'humanization'; alternative to the 'Humanization' function in VFX Level Scaler, but can use with any parameter; e.g. for repetitive 16th note hihats, toms or snares, as well as tonal ostinatos; for this, keep modulation subtle (i.e. low LFO amplitude); unlike VFX Level Scaler, timing and value changes are independent of playing a note
Have fun!
