Recording into Edison starts clicking/cutting in and out very quickly

Im using FL Studio 20 on my Macbook Pro, and I want to record a live performance through Edison on the master track of the mixer.
The first minute is fine, but after 1 minute of recording it slowly starts clicking and gets worse the longer I leave it recording. as soon as I stop recording it is okay again, and when I play back the recording it is also fine.

I noticed turning up the buffer size to 2048 samples stopped the issue. but Obviously I am using midi controllers and will make it extremely laggy and unplayable.

I used to have FL Studio 12 on my Bootcamp windows and I have done this before with no issues. So I am sure this isn't a hardware fault and must be something to fix within OSX version of FL Studio 20.

Is there any work around this?
