Alt+R changing sound of melody completely in piano roll

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help...when making melodies in the piano roll I press ALT+R, this bring up a window which allows you to alter the pan, velocity etc. I use this shortcut to randomize the velocity of the not in my melody, however when I press ALT + R the window pops up but the sound of my melody changes completely (sound off key) before I even alter the velocity knob. Can any tell me why this is and how I can fix it? I have tried to explain as best as I can, thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

Regards
