DeckaDance VSTi changed to VST FX?

I just installed the DD 2.3 update, and found that the VSTi was now a VST effect. A little bit surprised, as I had some very complex MIDI mappings with DD in FL Studio, and I'll have to re-do them now. No huge problem there though, just an inconvenience.

However, I'm confused as to why the switch was made? Would a programmer or forum administrator explain the rationale to me?

I actually used a MIDI keyboard controller for many parameters, having a key act as a button. I'm pretty confident I can map all my knobs and faders to an effect, but will the keys still be assignable to an effect?

Also, in some FX plugins, Fruity Love Philter for example, clicking on the plugin's interface makes that plugin take over incoming MIDI messages. I found this out when I would send the output of a synth or sampler through Love Philter, and if I clicked the Love Philter GUI, my keyboard would stop playing the generator. If I run DeckaDance as a VST, through something like that, will clicking on the other effect's GUI prevent MIDI messages from reaching DeckaDance?

Thanks,
