Cannot record midi notes from Audiomodern Riffer

I cant seem to be able to record any midi notes from audiomoderns riffer.

Simple set up, riffer on output port 0
any VST on input port 0

try to record into song or piano roll and nothing gets recorded even though the vst is playing fine and I can record audio.

Freshly installed latest stable version and still nothing. Spoke to Max at audiomodern and he said everything is fine with his.


Any ideas anyone?
