Merge selected clips no longer working v20.9

When I use the merge selected clips from the drop down menu or the shortcut it copies the selected clips to a new pattern. I used to be able to do this action with no issue. I'm using windows 10, Akai Fire, and Arturia Essential 49. Anyone else having this issue?
