Strange MIDI problem.

Somebody i know ask me to help him with a strange problem.
I didn't have an answer 'cause is a really strange problem to me.
he dont post because he doesnt speak english

His midi keyboard (mpu-401) doesnt control the midi data of the chanels, controlls the channels themselves instead.
i mean , he has 4 sampler channels in step sequencer and he has in his keyboard 4 active keys to trigger the root key of each. that's strange because doesnt trigger the respective key in the piano roll of the selected channel
do you understand?

i donk now it this information helps but he use a sound blaster live! 24 bit and he connects the midi device via midi/joystick port.
Even stranger the typing keyboard works that same.
