FL studio 6 with Midi Controller---LOST!!!

I'm new to this board.

I've been making music with FL Studio using my mouse.

I'd like to use my M-audio 88 Keystation Es for playing with the sequencer. How do I do this.?

I believe I made all the necessary connections, and hopefully enabled the correct buttons.

My question is, now that I have sound- how do I use it to record a track at a time?

I made a basic beat pattern with the step sequencer (using my mouse). I copied this pattern three times.

Then I enabled the midi controller and tried to play along with the beat, but it only records the first bar.

What am I doing wrong?

** Please help**

Thanks everyone
